There may be a thousand ways to learn about wine in the naked city, but Wine Noir, may be the most unusual. The entertaining DVD by Salvatore Carolei and Reneè Flemings takes consumers through wine basics, but does so in a format reminiscent of a film noir by way of chapters like "The Varietal Suspects" and "Case Closed/Mystery Solved," when all the pieces fit into place. Seamus Quigley, Wine Noir's resident "wine detective," ushers his charges through all of the pit falls - including the wine shop, restaurants, and food and wine pairings - in the best Sam Spade tough-guy style.
